Former Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona, Joe Arpaio has announced that he is going to make a run for Senate in Jeff Flake’s seat when he steps down (which he has already announced).
Arpaio is a hugely controversial figure who is loved as much as he is lambasted. He is a huge supporter of President Trump and the MAGA agenda, and as we know from his recent conviction, not afraid to stand up when he needs to. With a long history of being tough on illegal immigration and the “soft-life” of criminals, he may be just the Senator we need to represent America’s best interests in the House.
HIs reputation as a “tough on crime” guy came about when he decided that prisons and jails in his county shouldn’t be better equipped than the home of a working-class family. He cut the cable feed, and made life tough for the prisoners, saying: “This isn’t the Ritz/Carlton. If you don’t like it, don’t come back.”
Upon announcing his candidacy, Arpaio said:
“I have a lot to offer. I’m a big supporter of President Trump. I’m going to have to work hard; you don’t take anything for granted. But I would not be doing this if I thought that I could not win. I’m not here to get my name in the paper, I get that every day, anyway.”
